Twelve-year-old Sivanaindhan lives alongside his mother, sister and friend in a village of wage earners who work at plantain plantations and hopelessly seeks to live the merry life of a flitting butterfly. Between constant hunger and trying to stop his mother's tears, he spends his school holidays lugging plantains instead of playing. Into his parched life, a school teacher descends like a gentle drizzle and drenches him with her love. All of a sudden, his dreams are shattered and time pursues him relentlessly.

ಬಾಳೆತೋಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೂಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರೇ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ, ಹನ್ನೆರೆಡು ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಶಿವನೈಂದನ್‌, ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿ, ಸಹೋದರಿಯರೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಬಡತನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಾಯಿಯ ಕಣ್ಣೀರನ್ನು, ಹಸಿವಿನಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಶಿವನೈಂದನ್‌ ನೋಡಲಾರ. ಶಾಲಾ ದಿನಗಳ ಆಟೋಟದ ನಲಿವಿನ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ಆತ ಮನೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯ ಕೂಲಿಗಾಗಿ ಬಾಳೆ ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ನೀರಸ ಜೀವನದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ, ಬಿರುಬಿಸಿಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಂಪಾದ ಮಳೆ ಹನಿಗಳ ಸಿಂಚನವಾದಂತೆ ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿಯೊಬ್ಬಳ ಆಗಮನವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವಳು ಶಿವನೈಂದನ್‌ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಾರ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ತುಂಬುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಶಿವನೈಂದನ್‌ ಕನಸುಗಳು ಛಿದ್ರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Mari Selvaraj is an Indian Writer and Director who works predominantly in the Tamil Film Industry. He’s written 2 short story collections “Thamirabaraniyil Kollapadadhavargal” and “Marakkave Ninaikiren” and one poetry collection “Uchiniyenbadhu”. He has written and directed 4 films which include PARIYERUM PERUMAL, KARNAN, MAAMANNAN and VAAZHAI. All his films were Blockbuster hits and they were critically acclaimed. VAAZHAI is based on his childhood and it was under his production. His 5th Film BISON is currently under production.
