THAMPU THE CIRCUS TENT ARAVINDAN GOVINDAN

A circus troupe arrives in a small coastal village in Kerala and, after three days, resumes its travels. When the convoy arrives, the imperturbable undulation of the waves gives way to the excitement of the school children as they watch a modest circus tent being erected over a world of hoops, ropes, acrobats, musicians, and animals.

1978ರ ಕಪ್ಪು ಬಿಳುಪು ಚಿತ್ರ. ಸಂಚಾರಿ ಸರ್ಕಸ್‌ ಕಂಪನಿಯೊಂದು ಕೇರಳದ ಹಳ್ಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಬೀಡು ಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೊದಲ ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಆ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಜನರಿಗೆ, ಶಾಲಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಸ್‌ ಬಹುದೊಡ್ಡ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ದಿನ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿರುವ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಉತ್ಸವದ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆಗಾಗಿ ಜನ ಅತ್ತ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅರವಿಂದನ್‌ ಅವರು ಸಾಕ್ಷ್ಯಚಿತ್ರ ಮಾದರಿಯ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಥಾನಕ ಶೈಲಿಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ARAVINDAN GOVINDAN

Aravindan Govindan was a visionary filmmaker who revolutionized Malayalam cinema in the 1970s. Born on January 21, 1935, in Kottayam, Kerala, he was a noted cartoonist and played a key role in Kerala's theater movement before venturing into films. A self-taught director, he crafted poetic and contemplative films like UTTARAYANAM, KANCHANA SITA, THAMPU, KUMMATTY, ESTHAPPAN, CHIDAMBARAM, and VASTUHARA. He directed eleven feature films and twelve documentaries, winning seven National Awards. His work gained international recognition, with retrospectives in Japan and France. His remarkable career was cut short when he passed away on March 15, 1991, at the age of 56.
