YAKASI'S DAUGHTER YAKASIK OMÉDÉ DR. JAYANTA MADHAB DUTTA

Jariyum, a 14-year-old school dropout, and her 17-year-old fiance Migam belong to the Mising community, the oldest plain tribe in Assam. They live on a remote riverine island in Upper Assam, where life is a constant struggle against natural calamities, poverty, and poor infrastructure. Amidst visible community degeneration and minimal state presence, they dream of a better life. Jariyum longs for a conjugal life more bearable than her mother Yakasi's. But will eloping with Migam fulfill her dream, or will she face the same hardships as her mothers life of relentless domestic drudgery?
